21 Monday marks this year’s Maha Shivaratri which is one of the biggest fest of Hindus who worship Lord Shiva. Maha Shivaratri is celebrated on the Krishna Chaturdarshi in Phagun. Devotees offer Water,Milk,Dhaturo,Bhaang,Akwan flowers to Shiva’s idol or Shivalinga and worship the Hindu God of destruction. Shiva is considered as a ideal husband and unmarried girls and women pray for a husband like him. According to hindu mythology everyday in the calendar holds some significance and the stories often vary from different regions and communities.

2.Shiva’s birthday (emergence of Shivalinga)
3.Lord Shiva drinking poison to save the universe.(The Legend of Neelkantha)
4.Hunter who discovered Shivalinga
5.The day when Earth started worshiping Lord Shiva
5.Shiva followers observe the day as Har-ratri or Haerath or Herath which is ‘Bhairavotasava’ in the tantric words, Bhairava and Bhairavi are invoked through this tantric worship.
7.Maha Shivaratri is the night when Shiva performs the heavenly dance of creation, preservation and destruction.
